PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Four days from the official start of winter, Maine gets hit with another blast of snow and cold.

The plow trucks have been out in full force on I-95 and I-295. They worked through the evening commute, but they had to battle frigid cold temperatures, which make it difficult for salt to melt the snow on the roads.

The storm dumped several more inches on top of the foot of snow that many areas got just two days ago. At the Kennebunk rest stop, several tractor trailers and cars pulled off the highway to take a break from the conditions.

"It's pretty nasty," Linda McDonald of North Berwick said. "You know, most of the traffic is going forty to forty-five or less, so staying on the roads, but the visibility is what's killing you, and it's so cold out you know it's icing right up."
