(NEWS CENTER) -- A new poll released Tuesday shows a very tight race for Maine Governor.
The Pan Atlantic SMS Group Omnibus Poll shows more than 37 percent of eligible Maine voters would vote for, or are leaning toward voting for, Democratic candidate Mike Michaud, if the November 2014 election was held today.
Republican incumbent Governor Paul LePage stands at 36 percent while Independent challenger Eliot Cutler gets just over 18 percent.
Pan Atlantic's last poll of the race for governor was conducted in the Spring of 2013, prior to Michaud's announcement. Since he launched his campaign, Michaud's polling numbers have increased by 14.5 percentage points.
The poll also shows Mike Michaud is doing well among independent voters -- 34.7% to LePage's 26.4%. Eliot Cutler has 23.6% of independent voters.
The poll consisted of responses from a statewide telephone sample of 400 Maine residents. Twenty percent of the sample was cell phone users. The poll was conducted between November 25-30, 2013.
