WESTBROOK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- State and Westbrook Police say the two men found dead in an apartment in Westbrook were former lovers, whose relationship had recently ended. Police are calling the deaths an apparent murder suicide.
Detectives say it appears that Patrick Milliner shot Matthew Rairdon with a handgun inside Rairdon's apartment and then shot himself.
The shooting likely took place early Saturday morning, just after midnight, as Rairdon was returning home from work. Rairdon's roommate found the two bodies around 11 o'clock Saturday morning. A .40 caliber Glock handgun was found by Milliner's body.
Police say the two men were former lovers whose relationship recently ended.
22-year old Rairdon was an emergency room nurse at Mercy Hospital and 30-year old Milliner was a new correctional guard at the Maine Correctional Facility in Windham, attending the correctional guard training program at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.
State Police say Rairdon's death will be classified as a domestic violence homicide. Autopsies will take place Sunday at the State Medical Examiner's Office in Augusta.
According to State Police, Rairdon's death was the state's 23rd homicide and the tenth domestic violence related homicide of the year .
