BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- An autopsy from the state medical examiner's office concluded that the woman who was found dead in her Bangor apartment on Monday was strangled. Meanwhile the man accused in the killing went before a judge.
21-year-old Zackery Mailloux has been charged with murder for the death of Brooke Locke. Neighbors say Locke and Mailloux had been living in the apartment on Essex Street for only short time.
Bangor police were called out to the apartment Monday afternoon after getting complaints. When they got there they placed found Locke dead and arrested Mailloux. He did not have to enter a plea in court on Tuesday but has been ordered to undergo a psychological evaluation to see if he's competent to stand trail.
"He seems to be in okay shape," said Mailloux's court appointed attorney Jeff Silverstein, "ya know I think its very overwhelming for him and the family of the deceased..I have not had an opportunity to contact his family members yet, so really this all happened very swiftly."
Both Zack Mailloux and Brooke Locke were attending Husson University. Officials there say she was a third year student majoring in occupational therapy, and also a member of a sorority on campus.
No further details about the case are expected to be released anytime soon. A judge ordered that the police affidavit be sealed on Tuesday at the request of Maillioux's attorney. It will stay sealed until a grand jury hears the case later this month.
For now Mailloux will continue to be held without bail at the Penobscot County Jail.
