GORHAM, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- When a child gets a concussion, the aftermath can be overwhelming. School doesn't stop. Life doesn't slow down. And when it comes to finding help, many parents don't know where to start. But thanks to a new law, schools are now making it much easier for parents to navigate their child's concussion recovery. In most cases, kids can take the time they need to heal, and head back into the classroom without missing a beat.
Jessica Gagne took a deeper look into how the state is helping with concussion awareness and prevention in this special report.
For those parents who would prefer to do research at home, the Department of Education has also developed a concussion resource website to help answer question. Go to www.maine.gov/doe and search for the word concussions in the A-Z index at the top right of the page. There you will find information and videos to help make the path to recovery a smoother one.
