NORTH YARMOUTH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Police have charged a man with murder in connection with a fatal shooting at a Bee Farm in North Yarmouth last month.
According to Deputy District Attorney Bill Stokes, a grand jury in Cumberland County handed up the indictment late Friday afternoon.
Police say Merrill Kimball shot and killed Leon Kelley at Brown's Bee Farm. Kimball's attorney claims he only went to the Bee Farm to help his wife, who is a partner in the business, collect honey.
Kelley's father-in-law owns the farm. Kimball's attorney, Dan Lilley says Kimball was confronted by a group of Kelley's family members and says he only shot Kelley because he felt his life was in danger. No court date for Kimball has been set.
