SANFORD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Police have arrested a man they believe is responsible for robbing the Ocean Communities Federal Credit Union in Sanford and Kennebunk Savings Bank in Eliot.
Officials say Detectives from the Sanford Police Department and members of Eliot, Kittery, Somersworth, and Berwick Police Departments, along with the FBI, participated in a joint operation to arrest 46-year-old Philip Gage.
He was wanted for the the robbery of the Ocean Communities Federal Credit Union in Sanford on October 26th and the Kennebunk Savings Bank in Eliot on October 19th. A federal arrest warrant for robbery was issued by the US District Court in Portland on Wednesday. The warrant was for Gage's role in the bank robbery of Ocean Communities Federal Credit Union in Sanford on October 26th, and the Kennebunk Savings Bank in Eliot on October 19th.
Gage was arrested without incident in front of his apartment in Somersworth, New Hampshire around 10:00 a.m. On Thursday morning. He was taken into custody by the FBI and brought before a federal judge.
Officials credits the closure of these two cases to the hard work and long hours put into this investigation by all agencies involved, to include the personnel at the Maine State Police Crime Laboratory.
