PORTLAND (NEWS CENTER) -- Most kids are dressing up for Halloween and going out trick-or-treating Thursday night and while this is always seen as a fun event, safety is something important to remember.
The Portland Fire Department will be handing out glow in the dark bracelets - a simple, but effective tool in keeping tabs on keeping your child visible. The department has five thousand to give out and you can pick one up at any Portland Fire Department location any time during the day.
Starting at 5pm, firefighters will hit the streets and hand out glow sticks to any one who needs one.
Every year public safety officials stress the importance of Halloween safety and some of their top tips include wearing reflective tape, carrying flashlights, staying in well-lit areas and going with an adult.
Firefighters are hoping the glow bracelets will be a fun way for kids to embrace safety techniques.
