MOOSEHEAD LAKE, MAINE - Maine State Police say two people escaped serious injury Saturday night when their single engine plane crashed into Moosehead Lake in Northeast Cove, in the northern section of Moosehead Lake.
The plane went into the lake as it was attempting a water landing about 7pm. The Cessna 185 - four seater - with pontoons, was submerged in about 20 feet of water.
The pilot was 31 year old Thomas Coleman of West Forks, Maine. His passenger was 24 year old Ashli Goodenow of Portland, who was Lifeflighted to EMMC in Bangor with what turned out to be a minor head injury. Coleman also had minor injuries and did not require hospitalization. He told investigators that he was flying from Jackman to Northeast Carry.
State Trooper Matt Grant and Game Warden Bob Johanson responded to the scene. The Federal Aviation Administration will now investigate the incident.
