ROCKLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) The animal rights group called PETA apparently will not get to take Linda Bean to court.
Two weeks ago, PETA released a hidden camera video to accuse Bean of abusing lobster and crabs at her processing plant in Rockland. The group even filed a cruelty-to-animals complaint with Rockland Police.
But today, Knox County District Attorney Geoff Rushlau (RUSH-low) sent a letter to PETA, saying Maine's animal welfare law does not apply to invertebrates like lobsters and crabs. Rushlau says he will not ask police to investigate the complaint.
A PETA spokesperson says they disagree with the DA, and that the matter "is not closed".
