AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- With the completion of the largest hospital project in the state's history, MaineGeneral celebrated the new Alfond Center for Health hospital with a ribbon cutting and dedication Saturday.
The $312 million 192-bed hospital will be open for patients on November 9th. Construction ran on budget, seven months ahead of schedule.
The Harold Alfond Foundation donated $25 million for the project, and announced at the Saturday dedication ceremony that it would be paying MaineGeneral an additional $2 million once the November move is completed.
The next phase of the project will be a $10 million renovation on the Thayer Center for Health, which will serve as an outpatient center.
