WILTON, Maine (AP) - Police say a man involved in a five-hour standoff in Wilton is dead.
Chief Heidi Wilcox said the State Police Tactical Team entered the home at about 11 p.m. Tuesday and found the sole occupant, 60-year-old Raymond Richard, dead.
She tells the Sun Journal police went to the apartment at about 6 p.m. to investigate a report of domestic violence. Officers met Richard at the front door, but he would not let them in.
She says within a few minutes police heard a single gunshot from the apartment.
An autopsy has been scheduled and the standoff remains under investigation.
Wilcox says several area residents were evacuated from their homes during the standoff.
