PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- At times, the relationship between the Portland Pirates and the Cumberland County Board of Trustees has been a little rocky.

It seemed as though everything was fine when the two sides announced in April that a new deal had been reached to keep the Pirates in the soon to be renovated Civic Center for years to come. But over the course of the last 4 months, proposed changes to the deal have been made and the two sides are no longer on the same page.

The deadline to finalize a deal passed Thursday afternoon without an agreement. The chairman of the Civic Center Board of Trustees Neal Pratt says "the Pirates did not execute the formal lease proposal asked to be signed by 5 PM Thursday as a result, civic center management has new dates available to them to solicit events at the civic center, that includes dates previously held for the Pirates". Portland Pirates managing owner Brian Petrovek said the team would have no comment on the situation at this time.
