NORWAY, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Fire destroyed an historic home in Norway Wednesday afternoon.

According to Norway Fire Chief Dennis Yates, fire crews were called to the home at 6 Patch Mountain Road sometime after 1:30 PM Wednesday.

Chief Yates says crews from Norway arrived to find the home already engulfed in flames. Yates says crews had trouble getting water to the scene.

Pond scum in a nearby body of water clogged the filters that were pulling water to the scene. A dozen towns helped knock the flames down.

Yates says three people live at the home but only one person was there at the time of the fire. That person escaped safely.

Yates says the home, which was completely destroyed, is the historic Swift House.

Investigators from the State Fire Marshal's Office will try and determine a cause.
