FREEPORT, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Since 2004, The Quimby Family Foundation has awarded over 10 million dollars in grants to Maine organizations that promote outdoor recreation and the arts.
Founded by entrepreneur and philanthropist Roxanne Quimby, this year 56 organizations received grants that totaled $1.14 million dollars. The grant recipients represent a wide cross section of groups working to preserve Maine's outdoor heritage and promote access to the arts. A few of the organizations include educational programs, land trusts, wildlife conservation groups and film and music festivals.
A total of 295 groups applied for the grants this year.
