Police cite massage business in South Portland for violations

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Two people from New York have been cited for running an illegal massage and adult business in South Portland.

The business had been quietly operating since December until police started receiving concerns and complaints about it.

"There were a number of questions that were raised by residents, by neighbors, some anonymously some not anonymously and that's what triggered the investigation", said South Portland Police Lt. Frank Clark.

What police found was an illegal massage business operating without a city license. They also found evidence that adult entertainment services were being offered as well, including table showers and other pseudo massage services, another violation.

People who live and work in the area say it is not the kind of thing they want to see in South Portland.

"This is a great area, a lot of banks and kids, there's a school next door, two schools actually. No this isn't really the place for a massage parlor", said South Portland resident Julie Chew.

The owner Lucy Louie and manager Lan Song Liu both of New York are facing three violations of city ordinances. Fines for those violations range from $500- $2500. Both are due in court in October.
