BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- Blue skies and cool conditions this weekend made for good weather at the American Folk Festival in Bangor.

The free festival is held every year in Bangor during the last weekend in August. It draws performers from all over the world.

In the past the festival has faced weather woes, especially during the summers in odd years. In 2009 a rain storm sacked attendance levels on the busiest day of the weekend. Then in 2011 the festival had to fold up a day early because of Tropical Storm Irene. That cost the event about $80,000.

This year festival organizers say they had good weather to work with all three days. They say with better weather comes the possibility of better attendance for the event and more donations to help keep it going.

"All the people that are willing to kick in with their dimes and dollars and five dollars... it {the event} wouldn't happen," said, Mike Began, who has been a volunteer at the event for years, "and we have to give credit to those folks that make it happen."

This marked the twelfth year for the American Folk Festival in Bangor. Last year, more than 100,000 people attended the event.
