FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas (NEWS CENTER) -- A former Maine lawmaker and higher-up at the University of Maine has been fired from his job at the University of Arkansas.

John Diamond was the chief spokesman at the school. He had been director of external affairs at U-Maine and served four terms in the House of Representatives in the '80s.

The University of Arkansas is currently facing a scandal after it was discovered that there'd been several million dollars overspent in their budget.

U of A hasn't been releasing very much information about the controversy and Diamond told 'the Arkansas Democrat Gazette' that he was fired by text last Friday and that he felt the firing was the result of "strong philosophical and material differences over what it means to be a transparent and publicly accountable university."
