OGUNQUIT, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The search for a missing fisherman in Perkins Cove is now a recovery effort.
Fifty-one year old Billy McIntire was taking a boat ride with friends Thursday night when he jumped out of his commercial fishing vessel to go swimming with one of the other passengers. He did not resurface. After a full day of searching by the Coast Guard yesterday, the Marine Patrol took the lead today, with two boats, a plane and a team of divers covering about one-and-a-half square miles of search area. McIntire is a commercial tuna fisherman and a well-known fixture around Ogunquit.
"Happy, carefree, always with a joke, always with a smile, always with a real hearty handshake" Ogunquit resident Ben Hershenson said.
The search for McIntire will resume Sunday.
