BOSTON, Massachusetts (NEWS CENTER/AP) - As sportscaster for the Red Sox, Jerry Remy usually has a lot to say, but with news of his son's arrest on a charge of murder, Remy says he's lost for words. He released a statement concerning Jared Remy's arrest via his Twitter handle, @RemDawg.
The statement says:
"My thoughts and prayers go out to Jenn Martel and her family. Words cannot describe my wife's and my grief. Son or not, I am at a loss for words articulating my disgust and remorse over this senseless and tragic act. We are heartbroken, Jerry Remy."
Jared Remy pleaded not guilty to stabbing his girlfriend, Jenn Martel, to death at their apartment in Waltham, Massachusetts late Thursday night. Neighbors say they witnessed the stabbing but couldn't stop him. He surrendered to police without incident. Remy and Martel's 4-year-old daughter was in the home at the time. She is now in the custody of child welfare services.
The Boston Globe is reporting that Jerry Remy is taking some time off from work. He's reportedly out until August 25.
