LEWISTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Lewiston Police have arrested a man they say is connected to numerous residential burglaries and burglaries to motor vehicles that have occurred over the past two months.

Police say they located and arrested 18-year-old Paul Allen Fernald Jr. Friday evening on an outstanding warrant for burglary.

Police say the burglaries happened in areas located on quiet side streets off of high traffic areas of outer College Street and outer Lisbon Street. Officials said they believed that Fernald was responsible for several of the burglaries in the past two months.

The thefts have included items such as cash, credit cards, jewelry, and tools were taken. They say entry to the robbed locations was gained through unlocked doors and windows as well as forcing open doors to the residences. Most of the burglaries have occurred overnight.

Because of these incidents the Lewiston Police say they have stepped up patrols in the area, including the use of undercover officers in unmarked vehicles, riding on bicycles, and on foot patrols.

Fernald Jr. is being held at the Androscoggin County Jail on $5,000 cash bail.

Police say they are continuing their investigation and more arrests and charges are possible.
