AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- More than 17,000 customers were without power across the state as of Saturday morning.
Utility crews are working to restore service to those customers after a round of thunderstorms passed through Friday night.
Bangor Hydro reported the storms took down power lines and tree limbs across Penobscot County and damage was widespread. The company is reminding people to avoid fallen power lines and trees and not to attempt removing them or touching them. The power company reported more than 7,600 customers without electricity as of Saturday morning.
Central Maine Power reported on its website more than 12,000 customers were without power. Most of the outages were in Somerset, Androscoggin, and Kennebec counties as of Saturday morning.
