Canton, ME (NEWS CENTER)-- The Ancient Ones is a group of reenactors who live the period between 1740 and 1840. They are lovers of history, who through their reenactment learn of the simple pleasures of North American life in that century.
"This is what's missing from today's life," said Ray Hamilton, a leader of the group. "We have so much these days and we take a lot of it for granted."
The Ancient Ones join similar groups from all over the country for rendezvous. These were originally held in the West. Trappers and hunters would come to the encampment to show their wares. Suttlers from the cities would ride out to meet them and sell products.
Rendezvous are interesting gatherings in which information, stories and songs are shared.
