LEWISTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Another building in Lewiston will be coming down, and this one has a lot of history. Central Maine Healthcare has purchased the city's oldest Catholic Church-- St. Joseph's Church on Main Street -- and plans to turn it into a parking lot.

The Prince of Peace Parish announced the sale of the building this week. The Parish closed St. Joseph's and St. Patrick's in 2009, and they've been looking for a buyer since then.

A spokesperson for Central Maine Healthcare says it's unfortunate to lose a piece of the city's history -- but the building was in poor condition.

Central Maine Healthcare plans to begin the demolition process in about a month.
