BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Well known local DJ and Maine Sports Hall of Fame member, Dana Wilson, pleaded no contest Thursday morning to charges of possessing child pornography.

The 62-year-old from Brewer was first investigated by Brewer Police in February of 2011. What they found on Wilson's computer was enough to charge him with one count of possession of sexually explicit material, a Class C Crime. Wilson waived his right to a jury trial in March, agreeing to be tried before a judge Thursday.

The case receiving a lot of attention due to the fact that Wilson had been inducted into the Maine Sports Hall of Fame last year and was also the music DJ for several school dances in the Brewer area.

During the court proceedings, Deputy District Attorney for Penobscot County, Michael Roberts, listed the evidence that was discovered including 16 videos with sexually explicit material of children under the age of 12. Wilson neither admitted nor denied the findings and pleaded no contest to the charges against him.

"It means he's not admitting his guilt , but he's not contesting the charges," said Roberts. "The judge then hears the state's facts and enters a finding of guilt."

According to the attorney representing Wilson, Jeffrey Silverstein, the reason his client pleaded no contest was to avoid a lengthy trial down the road that could potentially call his family members to testify.

"He was determined to avoid putting members of his family in a position where they were forced to testify," said Silverstein. "He was aware that the state had subpoenaed these individuals and he did not want to put them through the trial process."

A sentencing date has been scheduled for July 16th. If convicted, Wilson faces a maximum of 5 years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines. He remains free on bail with several conditions including no contact with anyone under the age of 16.
