BELFAST, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - A 25-year-old man from Jackson has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for the drug-related fatal shooting of a Florida firefighter.

In a plea agreement, Daniel Porter pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of 31-year-old Jerry Perdomo of Orange City, Florida.

He was sentenced Monday inside Waldo County Superior Court in Belfast in an agreement that called for a maximum sentence of 30 years.

Porter was arrested in February 2012 at his father's home in Jackson where police say he killed the Seminole County firefighter over a drug debt. Both men had been working to deal prescription Oxycodone in Maine.

Porter told police that he owed Perdomo $3,000 and that Perdomo had threatened him and his family.

An affidavit said Porter and Perdomo had earlier exchanged death threats, with Porter threatening to shoot Perdomo and put him through a wood chipper, and Perdomo threatening to cut off Porter's hands.

In addition to jail time, Porter will also be on probation for a period of four years and have to pay close to $12,000 in restitution to Jerry Perdomo's family.
