ROLLINSFORD, NH (NEWS CENTER) -- Quilts of Valor were awarded to thirty Maine veterans Sunday.
Over the past eight months, groups around the state have been hard at work crafting thirty quilts to be awarded to Maine veterans.
It's part of a national project called Quilts of Valor that honors those who fought in World War Two, Korea, Vietnam and Desert Storm.
Sunday, the veterans gathered with their families at the American Legion hall in Rollinsford, New Hampshire to receive the quilts.
For the quilters and the veterans, the quilts symbolized more than any other blanket.
"With every piece of fabric we pick out, our heart goes to them," Eleanor Mead of Lisbon said. "We love them, and every stitch on my quilt is with love."
Lisa Lapierre, the project organizer, says she plans on starting another round of quilts for the program soon.
