PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Hundreds of Maine people were in Boston for the marathon today, Many others were there just to enjoy the holiday. As they came home tonight, people are telling stories about what they heard and saw.
The overwhelming comment we heard was- it's good to be home. We talked with Mainers coming back from their Patriots Day in the big city - a day that turned out to be very different from what they expected.
Surprisingly perhaps, the bombing and confusion in Boston did not interrupt Amtraks Downeaster service or the Concord coach lines buses to and from the city. But people did feel the shock and confusion caused by the bombing.
People said police were searching trash cans at North Station, and the PA announcer was telling people to keep watch for anything unusual. As we mentioned before, many of the folks we talked to said they were relived to get home...and get home on time.
