BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- This week marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Barbershop Harmony Society. A local Barbershop chorus that is part of the society is putting on its own concert in connection with the national event.
Mainely Music Chorus is made up of area men who love to harmonize. 30 Guys who get together once a week, have a lot of fun and perform good music with their voices. This week the group's is practicing for their concert.
The Chorus performs for schools, nursing homes and even singing Valentines. Russ Van Arsdale is the director. Russ says they feel that it is important to do a wide variety of music for both the audience and the singers.
Van Arsdale said, "The entire Barber shop society is aware of the fact that many of the chapters are aging. And that we need to make the music fresh and appealing to a younger audience of singers. And men who like to sing are always welcome here."
The Mainly Music Chorus presents "A Barbershop Journey" concert Saturday April 20th at 2 pm at the Brewer Performing Art Center at the new community school.
