PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Portland police say they've cracked an unsolved homicide.
A man from New York is under arrest charged with the murder of Margarita Fisenko Scott. Anthony Pratt of Far Rockaway, New York is in custody tonight after being arrested in Queens yesterday.
The body of Margarita Fisenko Scott was located in the snowy parking lot of the Motel 6 off Riverside Street in Portland back on January 17th. As weeks passed without an arrest it appeared Portland Police had a mystery on their hands. But all along they had their eyes on Pratt.
"He was an individual that we were focused on from the beginning around whether he was a witness or had some information. We knew there was a relationship, we knew he was margarita's boyfriend at the time so we had active conversations with him throughout", said Portland Police Chief Michael Sauschuck.
Investigators say Fisenko Scott was shot once inside an apartment at 266 West Concord Street behind Deering High School. They say Pratt then placed her body inside the SUV and left it outside the Motel 6.
Relatives of Rita Fisenko Scott say she was part of a large extended family from the Westbrook area that came to this country from Kazakhstan. They say her husband discovered her body after a friend located the SUV outside the motel. At the time of her Murder Fisenko Scott and her husband were separated.
Police say the gun used to kill Fisenko Scott was stolen during a burglary in Central Maine and sold to a third party in Portland. Pratt is being held in New York without bail pending an extradition hearing.
