AUBURN, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - In Auburn, your blighted building could win you money. A new "Curb Appeal" program would offer grant money and direct loans to fix up commercial and residential properties.
According to City Manager Clinton Deschene, the Curb Appeal program targets properties in the New Auburn, Downtown, and Union Street areas. It would award up to $10,000 in grant money per property to improve the appearance of the building's exterior.
Those selected must provide private match money through cash or loan. The applicant could also be eligible for a direct loan up to $10,000.
The city has approved a $50,000 budget from the 2012 Community Development Block Grant funds, and expects allocate $100,000 to the program this May.
"If the program keeps running well, we'll keep funding more and more each year," said Deschene. "I think you'll see a big change very quickly."
Applications are due by May 20. For additional information, contact Reine Mynahahn, Community Development Director, at email@example.com or 207-333-6601 ext. 1330.
