PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Four and a half months after Hurricane Sandy slammed into the northeast, people in New York and New Jersey are still struggling to rebuild their homes. And once again, people from Maine are stepping up to help.

Firefighters in Portland are partnering with volunteers from the midcoast to collect a shipment of relief supplies to help hurricane victims rebuild their homes. Groups in Lincoln County sent a big truckload of supplies to The Rockaways and Staten Island sections of New York back in November.

Russ Williams of Camp Kieve in Nobleboro says they used remaining cash to buy two pallets full of supplies that were loaded today. Portland fire fighters will be collecting donations next Saturday at all their city's firehouses, and say the people in New York really need the help.

You'll be able to take donations to all Portland fire houses next Saturday the 23rd. They'll also take cash donations to help the relief effort.
