PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Longfellow Books has been feeling the love from the community since it flooded during the Blizzard of 2013.

The store lost about half of its supply of books, and different groups around the city have rallied to help make up for the loss. There have been benefits and cash mobs, all helping the store get back on its feet. But the staff at Longfellow is realizing this effort is about something much bigger than a struggling book store. When the Playback Theater donated proceeds from its First Friday performance, there were twice as many people in the audience as usual.

"What we're starting to find out is this taking care of each other," Longfellow co-owner Chris Bowe said. "They did it for us but it also helped them because it swelled their ranks, and we heard today from a few people they're going to go every First Friday."

That benefit performance raised 900 dollars for the book store.
