RANGELEY, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Maine Wardens resumed recovery efforts for three snowmobilers on Wednesday, presumed dead after a snowmobiling accident on Rangeley Lake in December.

Wardens are using remotely operated underwater camerars with sonar to search for John Spencer, 41, of Litchfield; Glenn Henderson, 43, of Sabattus; and Kenneth Henderson, 40, of China.

Wardens confimed Monday that two snowmobiles are at the bottom of Rangeley Lake. The sonar images were recorded during their last search, in January.

Search efforts had been on hold due to dangerous weather conditions.

Cpl. John MacDonald said the ice may be frozen over, but it is still too risky to send a diver down to search.

"I asked the divers...on a scale of one to ten, with ten being the worst...we're operating at a ten," said Cpl. MacDonald.

He said they will only send a diver if they are sure they've found a body.

If they are unable to locate the men by the end of the week, search efforts will be postponed until the ice thaws in the spring.
