LEWISTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Call it a cool way to mix arts and local business: the first Ice Festival of Lewiston Auburn is underway, and exceeding expectations.
Five hundred tickets for both Friday and Saturday were sold before the event started.
The ice festival brings in ice sculptors, food and drink vendors, bands, and even ice dancers to the Fountain Plaza at the Bates Mill complex from Friday to Sunday afternoon.
"Events like this have seen success in Portland, and it makes [people] feel like 'Oh, Lewiston Auburn is coming into its own," said Odelle Bowman, Executive Director of LA Arts.
Her nonprofit has been working with restaurants such as DaVinci's to get the festival off the ground.
She said depending on turnout, some people may be able to purchase tickets at the gate. Admission is $10.
Sunday's kid-friendly Family Day is free.
