NEWPORT, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- Officials in RSU 19 are once again getting ready to try and have district voters approve taking out a loan for the RSU to help solve a massive budget shortfall.

Twice voters in RSU 19 have rejected taking out a loan to fix the budget crisis. The district went into this school year carrying a massive financial shortfall. As a result it had to take up a spending freeze. Officials also have already made about $1.6 million dollars in cuts to school programs and personnel.

Voters in the RSU's eight towns will be holding public meetings to discuss the loan. The issue will be taken up at a regional meeting for the school district on February 25, 2013 at Nokomis Regional High School. Superintendent Greg Potter says if attempts to get a loan fail again, the district will have to make even more cuts.
