BATH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - One person is found dead in the rubble of a duplex that exploded this morning.
It was located on Bluff Road just behind the Bath Shopping Center.
The call came in just after 5 this morning. People who live nearby tell us they felt and heard the explosion. They say it sent a fireball into the sky.
The Bath Fire Chief says one person is dead and another is missing. They don't know if that person was home at the time of the blast.
They also believe several people who lived around the blast were hurt and taken to area hospitals.
The identities of those involved have not been released.
Firefighters say there is a debris field from the explosion a quarter of a mile wide.
The house that exploded was made of brick and nearby houses and cars were damaged by the blast. Firefighters say the house was heated with propane but stopped short of saying whether that caused the blast.
The state fire marshal and the Propane Fuel Board will be at the scene investigating all day.
