SANFORD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A fire broke out Monday morning at 87 Fairview Drive in Sanford.

Just after 11 AM, the Sanford Fire Department received a call from a neighbor who said smoke was coming from a nearby home. Firefighters arrived at the house and knocked on the door to find that the resident of the house was in the cellar, and he was unaware that the first floor was on fire.

Sanford firefighters, along teams from nearby towns, had the fire under control by noon. The man inside the house was taken to the hospital and treated for minor chest pains.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Chief Jeff Rowe of the Sanford Fire Department said that he will work with the Maine State Fire Marshal to determine what started the fire.
