BIDDEFORD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- It's been a big year for Biddeford economically, and the city is embracing those changes with their annual WinterFest celebration.

The events lasted day and night, drawing in crowds all weekend long.

Snow from local parking lots was piled up downtown for a ski launch competition and snowtubing.

The second annual WinterFest included concerts on Saturday night and free skating on Sunday.

Biddeford's Mayor, Alan Casavant, says his hope is that the festival will enrich optimism in the city.

"From the outside looking in, I think it makes people realize that gee, there's something good going on in Biddeford," says Casavant. "It's a great community with great people that like to have fun, great work force, and we're changing for the better."

According to officials, Market Basket will be moving into the old Lowe's Building on Rt. 11. The supermarket is bringing an estimated 500 jobs to Biddeford this fall.
