KENNEBUNK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- People who love Zumba from across southern Maine came together in Kennebunk to restore its good name.

The word Zumba has become synonymous with the prostitution scandal that has rocked the Kennebunk community. Eighteen instructors and dozens of students held a class Sunday to remind the public of what the exercise craze is really all about. The event was organized by two Zumba instructors who teach in Kennebunk. They say they have seen declining class sizes and have been the butt of jokes since the prostitution scandal broke out. Cynthia Nicholas says she has even seen the affects in the Lewiston Auburn area where she teaches Zumba.

"Next time you see the word Zumba or Zumba instructor, don't make a cheap joke about it" Nicholas said. "First of all it's old. We're all tired of it. Maybe show Zumba in a positive in a positive way, or try a Zumba class. All you have to lose are calories."

The proceeds from the event went to the Center For Grieving Children.
