JONESPORT, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- One person was killed in a head-on collision in Jonesport Sunday morning.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office said 56-year-old Randy Thistlewood from Jonesport was killed when his car crashed head-on with another vehicle on Main Street just after 6 a.m.

The Sheriff's Office said 52-year-old Peta Johnson from Beals was driving the other car involved in the accident.  He was taken to a hospital in Machias with minor injuries.

Police said after initial investigation, Thistlewood was traveling well above the posted 25 mph speed limit when he lost control of his car and began to skid.  He crossed the center line, and slammed into the car driven by Johnson coming in the other direction.

Thistlewood was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said neither driver was wearing a seatbelt.  The accident remains under investigation.
