OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The dead of winter may seem like a discouraging time to think about running or going to summer camp -- but a benefit four miler encouraged runners in Old Orchard Beach today to do just that.
And you won't believe the footwear - or lack thereof - some of these people picked.
The 5th Annual Frozen 4 Miler traded-in last years' below freezing temps for 50 degrees this year.
The race attracted more than 500 runners, some of whom registered right up until the race.
Preston Curtis and Jennifer Kosinchuk ran the four miles without shoes. They say that running barefoot relieves stress.
"I had been running all season long in the summer, spring, and fall, but I had never done a winter run," says Kosinchuk. "And it was a perfect day; no snow on the roads."
After the race, Jimmy the Greek's restaurant treated runners to a pizza party.
