PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - A film about sexual assault in the military that includes footage of U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree of Maine has been nominated for an Oscar.
"The Invisible War" was one of five films in the documentary feature category when the Academy Award nominations were announced Thursday.
The film features interviews with women who were sexually assaulted while serving in the military, as well as with activists and government officials, including Pingree.
The third-term Democrat says footage of survivors telling their stories was shot in her office in Washington.
Pingree has been among the more vocal lawmakers in Washington fighting to improve the treatment of women who were sexually assaulted while serving in the military.
