BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Construction of Bangor's Cross Insurance Center has been going on for months. Today, for the first time, we got a glimpse of how the inside of the arena is coming along.
The $65 million facility will seat up to 8,000 people who will get to enjoy some of the countries biggest concerts and events thanks to the arenas 27,000 square foot floor.
"The floor space with all this seating out in this building is the same size as any large arena in the country," said the center's general manager Mike Dyer.
According to Dyer the arena will make for a much more modern facility compared to the older Bangor Auditorium. The Cross Insurance Center will boast state of the art sound panels, an 1,100 person conference center and 12 private party suites.
"It's bringing people in from out of town that spend money that wouldn't have been spent in Bangor otherwise," said Dyer.
Construction at the arena will continue throughout the year, and is expected to be completed by this fall. If everything goes as planned, a grand opening is scheduled for the second week in September.
Demolition of the Bangor Auditorium will take place in May, and will be replaced by a parking lot that will add over 300 spaces.
