SACO, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Kenneth Cormier, the founder and president of Funtown Splashtown USA, has passed away.
Cormier has owned attractions on the same plot of land on Route 1 in Saco for more than 50 years. The first business, according to Funtown Splashtown's history, was a drive-in. His brother-in-law, Andre Dallaire, opened a mini-golf course next door.
In 1967, Cormier and Dallaire merged their properties and formed Funtown. After 11 years of changing attractions, Cormier bought out Dallaire. Dallaire then created Cascade Water Park... which would be incorporated into Funtown to become Funtown Splashtown USA in 1996.
Kenneth Cormier died at a hospital in Celebration, Florida after suffering from a brief illness.
He was 80 years old.
