SOUTH PARIS, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - More than 10-years after a new law deregulating electricity took effect we're finally seeing the kind of competition in the industry that state leaders were envisioning.

Now Mainers have several companies to choose from when it comes to electricity suppliers.

South Paris based CN Brown is the latest company to jump into the electricity supply business. It has been purchasing it's own electricity for awhile to power it's offices and Big Apple stores. Now it's ready to offer electricity to its customers and other consumers.

"We've been buying for our own locations for about 8-years and doing very well so we felt our expertise was up enough that we could pass this along to the residents of Maine and New Hampshire now", said Jeff Jones CN Brown's Vice President of Electricity.

The company is hoping its current energy customers bundle electricity with their other products. In exchange for doing that they'll get discounts, including 5-cents off the price of heating fuels this winter.

"In the summer we want to bundle it with our Big Apple stores, save you money on your gasoline. In the winter on your heating oil and fuels. So if you're an electricity customer we want o add extra discounts to those other lines of business", said Jones.

While all electricity suppliers in Maine are offering a lower electricity rate than the standard offer, the savings are not huge. But in this economy any savings are welcome.
