BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- For many people downtown Bangor will be the place to welcome in the new year Monday night.
Crews were busy setting the stage for the annual 'New Year's Eve Downtown Countdown' in the Queen City. It is organized each year through the Downtown Bangor Partnership.
Activities will be taking place at several businesses on Main Street Monday evening. There also will be many musical groups performing in West Market Square. Then the magic moment will come at midnight when it is time to push a decorated beach ball off the roof above Paddy Murphy's.
Bangor has been doing that to officially ring in the New Year for the last seven years. Each year the Downtown Bangor Partnership gets help putting on the countdown from the city as well as many donors.
The city will be closing traffic on Main Street near West Market Square for festivities around 11 pm. Organizers say other surrounding streets around may also need to be closed depending on the size of the crowd.
