ELLSWORTH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- Fireworks retailers across Maine are hoping their new year will start off with a big bang.
This New Year's Holiday is the first one where many fireworks stores will be open in the state. It became legal to sell, use and possess fireworks in Maine this past New Year's Day.
Since then many stores around the state set up shop. Many reported a boom in fireworks sales during the weeks leading up to the Fourth of July in 2012.
Staff at 'Pyro City' in Ellsworth say their fireworks are already flying off the shelves for the New Year's Holiday.
The store has been selling large and small fireworks as many Mainers get ready to welcome 2013.
Staff at Pyro City say in addition to New Years, they are also making fireworks sales to people planning for weddings and ice fishing trips.
