ELLSWORTH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Police in Ellsworth have summonsed a man for leaving a loaded handgun in a bathroom at the L.L. Bean Outlet store.

Police say Benjamin Newman, 72, of Winter Harbor was summonsed for Reckless Conduct with a Firearm.

Police Chief John DeLeo said the gun had a bullet in the chamber when an employee found it late Wednesday morning in the Ellsworth outlet.

He said the employee called police, avoiding a potentially dangerous situation, especially if a child had come upon the loaded gun.
