AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Central Maine Power Company is reporting 8,000 outages as of noon Saturday due to heavy rain and wind that passed through the area Friday.
Spokesperson John Carroll says as many as 64,000 homes and businesses did not have power on Friday due to the storm. CMP crews restored power to 40,000 customers by late in the evening Friday, and restoration work continued throughout the night. Carroll says crews will continue work throughout the day Saturday with the goal of restoring power to all customers by late Saturday evening.
The storm also knocked out power to thousands in Northern and Eastern Maine. Bangor Hydro Electric Company is reporting more than 2,700 outages as of 11 a.m. Saturday morning, with more than 2,200 in Hancock County. As many as 5,800 outages had been reported by early Saturday morning. The company says it expects power to be restored to customers during the day Saturday.
